Voices from the Battle of Trafalgar $25.95 $17.95

Author - Peter Warwick
Published in 2006 by David & Charles, UK
Softcover, 320 Pages
Size - 20cm * 13cm

12.00am 21 October 1805, off the south-west coast of Spain: the Combined Fleet of France and Spain not only outnumbered the Royal Navy by 33 warships to 29, but was perceived by Britain as the single largest threat of invasion since the Spanish Armada in 1588.

Admiral Nelson's tactical brilliance and the extraordinary bravery of his men ensured victory by 5.00pm. The Franco-Spanish fleet was annihilated, losing 19 ships and 14,000 men: the British fleet remained intact but at a cost of 1,700 injuries and fatalities. Nelson was among the dead, plunging the victorious nation into mourning.

Drawn from contemporary letters, diaries, newspapers and ships' logs, the eye-witness accounts of those who were there evoke, with stunning immediacy, one of the most important naval battles in history.
