Tanks in Detail Book 2
By Jonathon Forty
Published in 2002 by Ian Allen Publishing, UK
Softcover, 96 Pages
Size - 25cm * 19cm
The M3 light tank series was one of the most successful tank designs of World War 2. Before the war, US armoured forces had been equipped with M2A4 light tanks but with the appearance of well-armed German tanks, the US government urgently commissioned the design and construction of an improved version, the M3.
Although still lightly armoured, the M3s (Stuarts) supplied to the British and Commonwealth armies served well in the reconnaissance role during fighting in Tunisia and the Western Desert. The tank was held in such esteem by crews that they named it `Honey'. Later in the war US and other Allied forces deployed the M3 and its updated variants with great success when liberating the Far East and Pacific Regions from the Japanese.
Designed specifically with the modeller, preservationist and wargamer in mind, Ian Allen Publishing's 'in Detail' series provides readers with a comprehensive history of the type of tank, self-propelled gun or military transport featured.
Each volume in the series includes a detailed history of the equipment in service, along with information on variants, markings and unit allocation. Alongside the comprehensive illustrated section every book also includes scale drawings.
Featuring:
* Design Development history
* Chassis - engines - tracks
* Turret - fighting compartment
* Armament
* Markings and insignia
* Line Drawings
