Tanks in Detail Book 8
By Terry J. Gander
Published in 2004 by Ian Allen Publishing, UK
Softcover, 96 Pages
Size - 25cm * 19cm
The LightTank M5 and M5A1 - known in the British Army as the Stuart VI - were the ultimate developments of the US light tank family that began with the M2 back in the late l 930s. They were simple, sturdy, fast and reliable.
While they could never last long against medium battle tanks they served extensively in several roles, from infantry support to reconnaissance.They also proved amenable to modification into other battlefield roles, from personnel carrier to self-propelled artillery platform, most notably the M8 HMC (Howitzer Motor Carriage).
Designed specifically with the modeller, preservationist and wargamer in mind, Ian Allen Publishing's 'in Detail' series provides readers with a comprehensive history of the type of tank, self-propelled gun or military transport featured.
Each volume in the series includes a detailed history of the equipment in service, along with information on variants, markings and unit allocation. Alongside the comprehensive illustrated section every book also includes scale drawings.
Featuring:
* Design Development history
* Chassis - engines - tracks
* Turret - fighting compartment * Armament
* Markings and insignia
* Line Drawings
