Author - James Herriot
Published in 2006 by Pan, UK
Softcover, 206 Pages
Size - 20cm * 13.5cm

When the newly qualified vet, James Herriot, arrives in the small Yorkshire village of Darrowby, he has no idea of the new friends he will meet or adventures that lie ahead.

From the author whose books inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small, this first volume of unforgettable memoirs chronicles James Herriot's first years as a country vet, with the signature storytelling magic that has made him a favourite the world over.

Here is a book for all those who find laughter and joy in animals, and who know and understand the magic of wild places and beautiful countryside.

James Herriot is the pen name of James Alfred Wight, known as Alf (October 3, 1916 - February 23, 1995). Wight was born in Roker, Sunderland where his parents came from, but brought up in Glasgow where at the age of twenty-three he qualified as a veterinarian. Wight worked in a rural practice in the town of Thirsk, Yorkshire, England, but was better known as the author of a series of books about his life working as a vet and his training in the RAF during the Second World War.

'He can tell a good story against himself, and his pleasure in the beauty of the countryside in which he works is infectious' - Daily Telegraph

'Full of warmth, wisdom and wit' - The Field

'It is a pleasure to be in James Herriot's company' - Observer
